Fugitive Apprehended at Brownsville Port of Entry
Brownsville, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Brownsville Gateway International Bridge recently apprehended a fugitive with an outstanding felony warrant. The successful arrest highlights the dedication of CBP officers to maintaining community safety.
Details of the Apprehension
On Friday, April 25, CBP officers referred 23-year-old Mexican citizen Yasser Ismail Abu Awwad Martínez for secondary inspection. Biometric verification and database checks revealed an outstanding felony warrant for failure to appear, issued by the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office. The warrant stemmed from an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge filed by the San Benito Police Department on December 31, 2023. Mr. Abu Awwad Martínez was subsequently taken into custody by the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office.

This arrest exemplifies CBP’s broader contribution to law enforcement. Utilizing the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database, CBP officers regularly apprehend individuals wanted for various serious crimes, including homicide, escape, and other felonies.
