CBP Notification Regarding a Death in the Line of Duty
The following information is provided in accordance with CBP policy and reporting requirements. On January 16, 2025, a tragic incident occurred near Clint, TX, resulting in the death of a Honduran national.
Incident Summary
Border Patrol Agents (BPAs) observed a group of individuals crossing the border illegally. One individual within the group subsequently collapsed. BPAs immediately responded, providing CPR and AED treatment before EMS arrival. Despite their efforts, the individual was pronounced deceased at Del Sol Medical Center.
Timeline of Events
7:00 a.m.: BPA UAS observes group crossing the border.7:02 a.m.: BPAs on the ground visually confirm the group.7:09 a.m.: UAS pilot reports a possible injury within the group.7:13 a.m.: BPAs arrive at the scene of the injured individual.7:15 a.m.: BPAs encounter an unresponsive male and request EMS.7:16 a.m.: BPAs perform CPR and AED treatment.7:37 a.m.: EMS arrives and transports the individual to the hospital.7:47 a.m.: Arrival at Del Sol Medical Center.8:32 a.m.: The individual is pronounced deceased.
Investigation
The CBP Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is conducting a thorough review of this incident. Interviews with other members of the group revealed that the deceased individual complained of chest pain shortly after crossing the border. The El Paso County Office of the Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy, and CBP OPR will review the findings. The Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General has been notified.
