Plan Ahead for Smooth Easter Travel: CBP Offers Tips

SAN DIEGO — With Easter weekend expected to bring increased travel volume, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) urges travelers to plan ahead to avoid delays and optimize their journeys. CBP’s San Diego Field Office Director of Field Operations, Sidney Aki, stated, “Easter weekend is typically a high-volume travel period, and we anticipate higher-than-usual traffic at border crossings. Pre-planning, including verifying passport or travel document validity and familiarizing yourself with customs and agricultural regulations, is crucial to reduce wait times and support border security operations.”

Essential Travel Documents

U.S. citizens are reminded to bring a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI)-compliant document, such as a valid U.S. passport, Trusted Traveler Program card, enhanced driver’s license, or enhanced tribal card, for re-entry into the United States. Be prepared to present this document if requested by a CBP officer.

Non-immigrant visa holders traveling to the U.S. who need an I-94 can apply and pay for an electronic I-94 online via the CBP One mobile app to streamline their international travels.

Check Border Wait Times

Travelers can check Border Wait Times (BWT) online or download the BWT app to make informed travel decisions. Wait times are updated hourly.

General Guidelines for Efficient Processing:

For a smooth admission process, CBP recommends following these guidelines (details not provided in original text, implied to be included in the full CBP guidelines).

Important Reminders:

CBP reminds travelers that while medicinal marijuana is legal in many U.S. states, its sale, possession, production, and distribution remain illegal under U.S. federal law. Crossing with a valid medical marijuana prescription is prohibited and could result in fines, seizure, or both.

Trusted Traveler Programs

Frequent international travelers who haven't joined a Trusted Traveler Program are encouraged to enroll. For more information, visit the official website.
