Local Student Honored as Laredo Sector Border Patrol Youth of the Year
LAREDO, Texas — Selina Blanca Alicia Liendo, a senior at United South High School, has been named the Laredo Sector Border Patrol Youth of the Year for 2024-2025. The announcement was made by Laredo Sector Deputy Chief Patrol Agent Enrique Martinez during a ceremony at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU).
Sara Melendez, CBP Public Affairs Officer, served as Mistress of Ceremony. Ms. Liendo's impressive high school career included participation in the school's EMT program, community service, and the Varsity Tennis team. She was also a member of the Kazen Fellowship Program, a year-long initiative focused on developing civic leadership.
Liendo plans to pursue a nursing degree in college. Her selection culminates the Laredo Sector Youth of the Month program, a 38-year-old initiative recognizing outstanding students from Laredo's 11 high schools. Selection is based on academic achievement, community involvement, and dedication.
The Border Patrol's Youth of the Year program celebrates Laredo's exceptional students. The program's success relies heavily on community partnerships, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting education and young leaders. Special thanks go to TAMIU for hosting the ceremony and to Judge Diana Saldana for her keynote address.
